A friend of mine was over the other day for a Baking Saturday. We had such a lovely time creating, laughing, drinking bubbly, and designing an ombre cake with “swoosh” icing. Super fun!
But as we were baking along, she asked me, “How long have you been baking?”
…and I had to stop and think… I mean, I’ve always baked, but mostly boxed cakes, store-bought cookie dough and such in the past. It wasn’t until about a year ago that I really got “serious” and wanted to learn how to bake everything from scratch and play with design.
So yeah, “About a year now.” AND I LOVE IT! I have this undying urge to bake everyday that is so strong, it wakes me up in the mornings:)
But boy, have I learned a lot so far!!
…
1
Practice. Practice. Practice. (your icing skills)
2
Not everything needs a little extra (icing on top). Some things are just fine on their own.
3
If you like something (like this carrot cake recipe), do it again and again…
4
Don’t be afraid to experiment (with fondant… though not my favorite).
5
Have fun and try something new (like this piping technique).
6
Find the good in everything, even though it may be deep inside somewhere. It’s there… waiting to be uncovered.
